Becoming A Conservation Leader

Our Becoming A Conservation Leader programme continues to be popular and has been oversubscribed within days of advertising each opportunity to take part. Our sixth cohort of participants are nearing the end of their exploration of leadership with us and it’s been a privilege as always to be a part of their journey, learn from their experiences and listen to their reflections over the course of the 12 weeks of the programme. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved to date with Becoming A Conservation Leader, it has proven itself to be simple, effective and inclusive and we are receiving lots of positive feedback from our participants, including this from Michelle who took part in our winter cohort:

At first, I was quite apprehensive to take up yet another course (I was getting addicted to saying ‘yes’ to everything at this point in my life). I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the workload and get enough from it because of this reason. I was pleasantly surprised by how relaxed the workloads we were provided with were, these were very short weekly activities but incredibly thought provoking, which meant you would spend days mulling the lessons over and reflecting on yourself and others around you. Being provided with a mix of audio clips and blogs meant the course was super engaging also. I ended up looking forward each week to the discussion groups and was especially fond of the team’s group activities, everyone in the class were absolutely lovely, all with similar interests. If nothing else the course was a fantastic chance to meet a bunch of like-minded individuals who all want to become better leaders. I recommend this course to anyone who wishes to improve upon themselves and to become a better team player/ leader in their communities/families/work environments. If you feel you won’t have time to fit this in around your other commitments, I can 100% tell you that you can! The course ends up feeling a bit like unwinding, down-time where you can reflect on your day/week/year/future.’

We will be advertising another opportunity to participate in Becoming A Conservation Leader this Autumn, and in the meantime will be working on improvements and updates to the material to ensure it remains relevant and thought provoking.

Evolving Conservation Leaders

We now have 28 members of our Evolving Conservation Leaders initiative which connects early-career conservationists who demonstrate the characteristics of authentic, effective, and brave leaders with the potential to influence positive change in conservation.

Members of this group are paired with experienced mentors from across the conservation movement who support our members along their leadership journey, helping them to focus on their goals, apply their skills and benefit from shared experience and opportunities to learn and develop. We also hold regular networking opportunities, facilitate peer support, provide workshops and other experiences to further develop leadership and other transferable skills. To date much of these events and activities have taken place online due to the ongoing pandemic, however we hope that the group will finally be able to meet in person later this year.

We plan to showcase the diverse range of talent in our ECL group through online seminars over the next few months, with the first taking place at the end of May. More details coming soon!
