Networking & Reflection Session – February 2024

Reflection Exercises:

During our first networking and reflection session of 2024 we took time to focus on the leaders we hope to become, set progress goals for our leadership development this year and think about the steps we need to take to achieve them. To help us with this, we briefly revisited the themes of absolute clarity, freedom within a framework and joint accountability (you can find these in chapters 10, 11 and 12 of Lead Like Mary, or pages 101,109 and 115 of Lead!).

Absolute Clarity

People only give their best when they have absolute clarity on what is expected of them and how to deliver -or in this scenario, what you expect of yourself!)

  1. Visualise/describe the leader you are striving to become. (The bigger picture/line of sight)
  2. Why is it important for you to become that leader? (Your purpose)
  3. What are your leadership goals for 2024 – what progress are you hoping to make this year to help you become the leader you envisage? (Focus on a limited number of clear, relevant, timely objectives).
  4. How can your mentor support you with this?

Freedom within a framework

People grow and flourish when they have freedom within a framework of clarity, support and feel truly inspired and engaged.

OLF has provided a framework of workshops and networking opportunities to help inspire and support you along your leadership journey, but it’s up to you to use your freedom within/around that framework wisely!

  1. What might you need to do in addition to the workshops and activities OLF provide to achieve your aims/goals? (think about how you will practice your leadership skills in the real world)
  2. How could you support your peers in the ECL network/ how could they support you?

Joint Accountability

A good leader strives to hold themselves accountable as well as ensuring others are held accountable.

  1. How will you hold yourself personally accountable in achieving your leadership goals? (Do you need someone to help you hold yourself accountable – e.g. your mentor, line manager, a peer?)
  2. How will you measure your progress?
