Inside out: self-guided exercises

Exercise 1:

Firstly, think of someone who has been a role model for you at some point in the past, or is now.  It could be anyone, a boss, colleague, friend, parent, teacher, or whoever, it could even be someone famous who you have not met but admire from afar.  The critical thing is that this person had or has a positive impact on your life, helping out at difficult times, pointing you in the right direction, believing in you etc.

What is it about that person that you particularly admire?  Try and come up with 3-5 examples of what was special about them, how did they help you?

Exercise 2:

Secondly, think about this statement:

‘The leader I want to be…’

Draft a paragraph (not bullet points) answering that question.

Exercise 3:

You have seen Becky’s example of the middle circle in the Inside Out Leadership Model above. Think about the people you interact with on a daily basis and note them down. If it helps, you can split them in to personal and professional. Your circle is probably wider than you think!
